Special Olympics West Virginia is excited to be conducting its 1st Annual Polar Plunge in Beckley on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at noon.  The Raleigh County Armory will be the site of this plunge and will enable “plungers” to enter the water one step at a time or boldly jump into the outdoor swimming pool filled with cold water.  As with all Polar Plunges, participants are asked to raise a minimum of $50 for the privilege to plunge.  There are incentives for those who raise more, and prizes will be awarded for most money raised by both an individual and a team of 4 persons.  All proceeds benefit Special Olympics West Virginia.   A post-plunge party will be held at the armory to allow plungers to warm

2009 BASKETBALL & CHEERLEADING TOURNAMENT
02/15/2009
The Special Olympics West Virginia 2009 Basketball and Cheerleading tournament is scheduled for March 20-22 in Morgantown.  We hope your schedule will allow you to serve as a volunteer.  The venues we are using are the WVU Recreation Center, Morgantown High School and the Sunday finals at WVU Coliseum.

Please indicate your desire to volunteer for the event by completing both the Volunteer Application and the Volunteer Schedule.  If you volunteered during this event last year for Special Olympics and have completed the Volunteer Application with photo ID attached you will not need to repeat this process.  I will keep all volunteer applications on file for three years.  Upon receiving your Volunteer Schedule, if we need an application or any part of one (such as ID) we will notify you.

We ask that you return the Volunteer Schedule by March 6, 2009.  This allows us time to order volunteer shirts and process the scheduling.  I will fill the volunteer positions with consideration of your preference.  You will be sent a notification of your assigned schedule and registration information, which includes direction/map etc.

On behalf of the Special Olympics West Virginia staff and the 2009 Basketball / Cheerleading Management Team, THANK YOU for your support.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 304-345-9310 or 800-926-1616.  You are welcome to copy (without changes) this invitation and the volunteer forms for dissemination.  We look forward to working with you to provide a memorable experience for all involved, especially the Special Olympics West Virginia Athletes.
