Polar Plunge 2010

Raleigh County Armory, Beckley, WV

Special Olympics West Virginia is excited to be conducting its 1st Annual Polar Plunge in Beckley on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at noon.  The Raleigh County Armory will be the site of this plunge and will enable “plungers” to enter the water one step at a time or boldly jump into the outdoor swimming pool filled with cold water.  As with all Polar Plunges, participants are asked to raise a minimum of $50 for the privilege to plunge.  There are incentives for those who raise more, and prizes will be awarded for most money raised by both an individual and a team of 4 persons.  All proceeds benefit Special Olympics West Virginia.   A post-plunge party will be held at the armory to allow plungers to warm

their souls and share their thrilling plunge adventures.

Incentive Levels (solicit contributions from friends, family, businesses, employers, etc.  Everyone who takes part in the Polar Plunge will earn incentives based on the amount of their contribution)

$50 Plunge, t-shirt, and party

$200 Plunge, beach towel, t-shirt, and party

$350 Plunge, fleece jacket, beach towel, t-shirt, and party

$500 Plunge, dinner gift card, fleece jacket, beach towel, t-shirt, and party

Attire

Swimsuit (with t-shirt if you prefer)

Costumes (for those who want to provide some entertainment)

No Wetsuits permitted!

Tips

Bring a robe or jacket... great to have while waiting to go in or slip into as you dry off

Shoes/slippers to wear while waiting to plunge

Bring extra towels

No Diving

All participants will be asked to sign a release form the day of the plunge.  If the plunger is younger than 18, he or she must have a parent or legal guardian sign the release form before plunging.

Summer Games Coming to Charleston

It's almost that time of year again when 800 Special Olympics athletes and hundreds more families, friends and fans from throughout West Virginia will gather in Charleston for the 2009 Summer Games.  This year's games will be held June 5-7 and will include athletes competing in seven sports (Track & Field, Swimming, Bocce, Golf, Tennis, Cycling, and Softball) over the course of three days.  The athletes are already training in preparation to do their best with their competitions, and everyone is welcome to share in the experience and to cheer on these great athletes at their biggest event of the year.  All Summer Games events are open to the pubic and free to spectators.

To ensure that the athletes have a successful experience at Summer Games, we need 600-700 volunteers.  If you would like to volunteer to help with Summer Games in any capacity, please fill ut the Volunteer Application Form and Summer Games Schedule through the link below or by alling the Special Olympics West Virginia office at 1-800-926-1616.
