SPECIAL OLYMPICS WV RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE UPS FOUNDATION
08/25/2009
Special Olympics West Virginia received a $17,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS.  The grant will be used to support the organization's state level competitions such as Summer Games which enable individuals with intellectual disabilities to train and compete in 19 Olympic-style sports.

“We are delighted to receive the grant,” said John Corbett, Chief Executive Officer.  “The funding will greatly assist our efforts to provide meaningful experiences for the thousands of West Virginia citizens who benefit from our programming.  We are most fortunate that The UPS Foundation has made an investment in furthering our community work, and we are grateful that the Foundation is joining with us to touch the lives of many.”

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impact social issues.  In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving:  non-profit effectiveness, economic and global literacy, encouraging diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.

In the past year, The UPS Foundation distributed $46.9 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs such as Special Olympics West Virginia and provide support for building stronger communities.

“The UPS Foundation is committed to funding impactful programs that make a meaningful difference in our communities – so we are proud to support the efforts of Special Olympics West Virginia in providing year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities,” said Ken Sternad, President of The UPS Foundation.
