Special Olympics West Virginia Protective Behavior Training and Policy
08/27/2009
A SOI memorandum was distributed enforcing that every US program is required to provide all Class A volunteers with Protective Behavior Training in accordance with the US Risk Management Insurance Task Force policy.

West Virginia is a Mandatory Report state. As a volunteer it is extremely important that you understand what this means and how it affects you and your responsibilities by law.

The Protective Behavior Training Policy (PBT) was introduced at the 2007 Leadership Conference. This training includes the policy on Code of Conduct, which enforces that each Athlete / Unitified Partner, Volunteer and Coach read, understand and sign the Code of Conduct prior to participating in any SOI SOWV activity.  The Protective Behavior Training is for all Program Volunteers to take individually through the SOI /SOWV wed site or by group, facilitated by SOWV Staff.
The participants in the 2007 Leadership Conference have passed and are recorded to have taken the training and signed Code of Conducts. This will be on file with your Volunteer Application and like the Volunteer application will be reviewed in 3 years. All others and new volunteers must take this training prior to the next SOWV event.
To complete the training as a County Program/ group: you can contact Linda Quinn and schedule a day- time and location.

To take the training on the internet: go to Special Olympics.org

In Search box write - Protective Behavior Training
Click link for (18 Slide - audio)Training
When finished take the quiz
Enter your information (name address and county) It is important to do this. SOI will document record and inform me you have completed the training.

Code of Conducts will be added to the Athlete Medical process. Be sure to review this and the consequences of their actions, prior to their participation in practice or any event.  The Volunteer / Coach Code of Conduct will be added to the process for new volunteer applications. As I receive the signed Code of Conduct forms for your program volunteers already on file I will attach them to their application.

If you have any questions regarding this policy or training contact Linda Quinn at SOWV. 304-345-9310 / 800-926-1616 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
Thank you for you attention and compliance with this process.
