Nearly 2,000 Special Olympics West Virginia athletes, coaches and volunteers will descend on Charleston for the 2010 Summer Games on June 4-6. Athletes from throughout the state will put forth their best efforts as they compete in track and field, swimming, golf, tennis, bocce, softball, and cycling.
Events get underway Friday afternoon and the day's festivities conclude with Opening Ceremonies that same evening at Haddad Riverfront Park. Saturday will be the biggest day of competition as nearly every athlete will be in action at some point in the day. Competition venues include Laidley Field, Coonskin Park, YMCA, King Center and Watt Powell Softball Annex. Competition wraps up by 11:30 a.m on Sunday and there will be plenty of smiles on the faces of the athletes as a result of their achievements.
