The Polar Plunge... It's Wild! It's Crazy! It's Fun!
12/07/2011
Special Olympics West Virginia will be conducting three Polar Plunges in 2012.  Pick the one nearest you, or dare yourself to participate in all three and be among the truly “elite plungers.”  Regardless, you will enjoy the thrill and excitement that surround each of the events.

Each participant must raise a minimum of $50 for the privilege to plunge, and the more money participants raise the more prizes they receive.  And remember, the money generated from the Polar Plunges enables thousands of Special Olympics West Virginia athletes to have opportunities for year-round sports training and competition that results in lasting joy and happiness.

We hope to see you at one of the following Polar Plunges where we promise to have the water icy cold just for you... it's your chance to be Freezin' for a Reason!

Beckley Area Polar Plunge
Saturday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m.
Winterplace Ski Resort

This is the third year for the Beckley Area Polar Plunge, but the first at scenic Winterplace Ski Resort.  There will be plenty of snow in the background as participants jump into the frigid pool waters set up at Winterplace.  If your family and friends are too chicken to take the plunge, have them show their support by making a pledge to a braver soul.  So grab a towel and grab a friend and be included among those having a blast at the Polar Plunge at Winterplace.

Once you complete the plunge, we will have a warm facility available for you to change clothes and then join us for a party at Mickey's at Winterplace where we will share our plunge adventures and enjoy great food and drink.

Morgantown Polar Plunge
Saturday, February 18 at 2:00 p.m.
Star City Park and Marina

The Polar Plunge got it's start in Morgantown, and this plunge still holds the single event records for most plungers and most money raised.  This year participants will have the option of plunging into the Monongahela River or a pool.  It does not matter which you select, as one thing is for certain – the water will be cold!

The Morgantown Polar Plunge is noted for the incredibly creative costumes that many participants wear to compete in the entertaining costume contest before taking the plunge.  Keglers will host the post-plunge party.  For more information about the Morgantown Polar Plunge, please go to wvpolarplunge.com.
