Winter Games

Special Olympics West Virginia Winter Games are currently held in Canaan Valley near the end of January.  Winter Games offers approximately 200 athletes the opportunity to demonstrate their courage and abilities through such sports as downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.  Downhill skiers and snowboarders compete in the giant slalom and downhill races while cross-country skiers and snowshoeing athletes race in events that range from 50 meters to 3 kilometers.  This event offers great competition, beautiful scenery, and countless newfound friendships.

Spring State Basketball Tournament

Special Olympics West Virginia hosts the annual Basketball and Cheerleading Tournament in Morgantown, West Virginia.  Athletes from around the state train months in advance to compete against other counties for the gold as they demonstrate their passion and skill for sports through these awe-inspiring basketball and cheerleading competitions. The tournament offers team basketball, individual skills basketball, and cheerleading that features floor cheers and dance routines. We are privileged to partner with West Virginia University and Morgantown High School for some of the best facilities in the area.  Come cheer on West Virginia athletes during this exciting event.

Summer Games

Typically held at the beginning of June, Special Olympics West Virginia Summer Games are the pinnacle of competition each year.  Approximately 700 Special Olympics athletes from throughout West Virginia gather in Charleston to compete in a variety of sports such as track and field, swimming, golf, tennis, baggo (corn-hole), bocce, and softball. These incredible athletes will continue to inspire everyone with their courage, determination, and skills.  For many Special Olympics athletes, there is no greater joy that having the opportunity to play sports, to showcase their abilities, and to be recognized for the personal accomplishments no matter how great or small.  

Fall Games

Parkersburg has served as host of the Special Olympics West Virginia Fall Games for more than 20 years.  Fall Games enables approximately 550 individuals with intellectual disabilities of all skill levels to compete in volleyball, bowling, flag football, and football skills.  Accompanying the athletes will be more than 200 volunteers and coaches who have spent weeks training the athletes for the games. Fall Games offers some of the best team competition in Special Olympics.
