The Toyota-Special Olympics West Virginia Golf Classic is widely regarded as one of the best golf events in the state. The tournament traditionally sells out, and participating golfers not only have the chance to enjoy a round of golf but also observe a clinic conducted by a well-known golf professional and then have the opportunity to visit with the pro throughout the day. Among the golf pros who have participated in the tournament include Chi Chi Rodriguez, Mark O'Meara, Raymond Floyd, Nancy Lopez, and Charles Howell III.
Toyota completely underwrites the expense of the tournament so all proceeds go directly to Special Olympics West Virginia. This event is typically the largest annual fundraising event for the organization, and over the years has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Special Olympics West Virginia athletes. A highlight of the event is the speech by an athlete during the awards dinner.
Warm hearts and standing ovations are the norm as the athlete shares what Special Olympics has meant to his or her life and the joy he or she has experienced as a result.
